Sample Letter

Dear friends /  family /  colleagues,

I have decided to participate in this year's Run For Water – an annual running event that is held in Abbotsford.  This year's race is on May 29th at Mill Lake Park.  Not only is it a great community event, it also provides an opportunity for me to get involved in fundraising for some of the most needy people in the world.  Every week, 40,000 people die for lack of clean water.  It is horrible to think that the majority of these are kids under the age of 5.  The good news is that providing just one person with clean water for the rest of their life costs only $35.  

I’m asking people to consider sponsoring X people with a donation of X dollars.  All contributions over $20 are tax deductible.

You should also know that the Run For Water is run by a non-profit society with a volunteer board and staff.  The charity they work with is Hope International Development Agency.  They do amazing work with over 95 cents of every dollar raised going directly to the projects they work on!  We are raising money for the Bonke district of Southern Ethiopia.

Please consider giving to this worthy cause.  If you do give, please make the cheque out to "Hope International Development Agency" and return it to me by no later than May 24th.
