Intro 2012

On May 27, 2012, the 5th annual Run for Water, presented by Envision Financial, will be held in Abbotsford.  Run for Water is a premier community running event open to individuals of all ages and abilities.  The goal is to promote physical fitness, community spirit, and raise funds for clean water development.  In 2011, we had 3,500 participants, 1,000 of which were children under the age of 18.  Over $200,000 was raised for clean water projects in the Bonke region of Ethiopia, with 25% of that amount being raised by the tremendous efforts of students from local schools!

For 2012, we welcome all elementary and middle schools in Abbotsford to come on board as Run for Water schools.  In doing so, their students will gain opportunities to learn about global water issues, while realizing their potential to positively impact the lives of others.  In addition, they will have the opportunity to register for the 2012 5K Fun Run at a reduced cost.  In order to take part in the program, schools must elect a teacher or team to attend an initial meeting, commit to teaching a portion of the curriculum, have students complete a project and promote several exciting contests and key dates on the Run for Water calendar.  Assemblies, fundraising campaigns, and school mini-runs are optional, but will be offered and supported if schools choose to pursue any of these.

The cause: Roughly 80% of Ethiopians require improved drinking water facilities. Run For Water partners with an experienced development agency, HOPE International Development Agency, an organization that works directly to Ethiopia and taps into clean water springs for villages currently living without clean water. It has been calculated that $35 will give one African child clean water for the rest of his or her life.

Join us in this cause. Get your students involved in Run for Water!
